Certificate in Skills for Sport and Active Leisure

This course introduces learners to sports and leisure activites. It helps the learner to develop specific skills and knowledge which will help them when they look for employment

The course is intended to provide learners with a broad introduction to sports and active leisure. The aim of the course is to equip students with underpinning knowledge and specific skills alongside a range of transferable employability skills.

There is a balance of theory and practical learning to engage students and arm them with sports related skills.

The course structure includes maths and English (embedded into all subjects as well as standalone qualifications) The students are required to undertake meaningful work experience for a period within the study programme. There is a tutorial programme which dovetails with Literacy sessions focussing on areas that are relevant and beneficial to student’s wider learning beyond sport.

Students who are identified for the Award programme can move onto the Certificate in their next year. If individuals show a considerable amount of maturity and/or progress, a logical move thereafter would be onto the Certificate/Diploma in Skills towards Enabling Progress course. This I a stepping stone to the wider college of employment.

Students who are not quite ready for an Entry 3 qualification can still study on the sports programme but would follow the Skills for Independent Living route. In the past, students have then progressed to Skills for Sport and Active Leisure.
